travel europe germany berlin berlin state opera
ARCHITECT: GEORG WENZESLAUS VON KNOBELSDORFF (1741-1743)

The Berlin State Opera is located on Unter den Linden in the historic center of Berlin, in what used to be East Berlin.
The building was designed in the Palladian style of architecture by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff.
In 1994, when I visited Berlin with my group of exchange students, we went to the State Opera House for a production of the Barber of Saville.
It was a minimal production with few stage props and scenes and, since it was all in German, not particularly entertaining.
Still, it was an interesting experience... almost like a step back in time.
